Ice baths, my secret weapon

Ladies, let’s be real. Running a business is tough work. From managing employees to juggling finances, it can take a toll on both our physical and mental health. That’s why I’m here to talk about a little secret weapon that can help us power through those tough days: ice baths.

I know what you’re thinking, “But Shona, ice baths sound like torture!” Trust me, I get it. The idea of submerging yourself in freezing cold water might not sound like the most appealing way to spend your time. However, the benefits are truly incredible, especially for women in business.

First and foremost, ice baths can work wonders for reducing inflammation. When we’re running a business, it’s easy to fall into the trap of working long hours, sitting in front of a computer screen, and neglecting our bodies. This can lead to inflammation, which can cause all sorts of issues, from joint pain to chronic diseases. But fear not, because ice baths can help to combat this.

When you submerge yourself in ice-cold water, your blood vessels constrict, which reduces swelling and inflammation. This is great for women in business who spend a lot of time sitting at a desk or in meetings. Plus, it’s a quick and easy way to give your immune system a boost, which is always a good thing when you’re running a business.

Another major benefit of ice baths is that they can help to increase energy levels. As women in business, we often find ourselves burning the candle at both ends. As much as we know we shouldn’t, often we do. Whether it’s staying up late to finish a project or waking up early for a meeting, we’re constantly on the go. Ice baths can help to combat fatigue and give you the energy you need to power through your day. When you submerge yourself in ice-cold water, your body goes into survival mode, which releases endorphins and adrenaline. This can give you an immediate burst of energy and leave you feeling invigorated and ready to tackle whatever challenges come your way.

Ice baths can also work wonders for mental health. As women in business, we’re no strangers to stress and anxiety. It comes with the territory. However, taking a few minutes out of your day to sit in an ice bath can do wonders for your mental wellbeing.

When you’re submerged in ice-cold water, your body goes into a state of shock, which triggers the release of dopamine and other feel-good chemicals. This can help to alleviate stress and anxiety, leaving you feeling more relaxed and focused.

Results I have noticed personally in 9 months of morning cold showers and 2 weeks of ice plunges.

  • Better sleep
  • Improved focus, so much so that I have reduced my Ritalin for my ADHD
  • Noticeable improvement in my skin conditions
  • Calmer, less anxiety
  • Shinier hair

So, how do you take an ice bath or shower? Here are some simple steps to get started:

1. Fill your bathtub with cold water (10-15°C) and add a few bags of ice until the temperature reaches around 10°C.

2. Submerge your body in the water, making sure that your entire body is submerged, including your head.

3. Stay in the bath for around 5-10 minutes, or as long as you can tolerate it.

4. Once you’re finished, warm up gradually by wrapping yourself in a warm towel or blanket.

If you’re not ready to take the plunge into an ice bath, you can start with a cold shower. The process is similar, but instead of filling a bathtub, you stand under a cold showerhead for around 5-10 minutes.

In conclusion, ice baths might sound intimidating, but the benefits are truly incredible. From reducing inflammation to increasing energy levels, they can help women in business to feel their best and power through even the toughest days. So, next time you’re feeling stressed or worn out, why not give an ice bath a try?

Your body and mind will thank you!
